Record yourself with the teleprompter

Help centreRecording and uploading

What Record does

Record (in the menu, and on Home next to Upload a video) films you on your phone or computer, in the browser, while your script scrolls on a teleprompter near the camera. You record in takes, then Davnai makes the video post-ready with the AI Director, or joins several takes into one video. It's part of plans with Record yourself with a teleprompter; recordings count toward your video minutes like uploads.

Your script: write, paste or let Davnai write it

In 1. Your script: Write or paste (text from Claude, ChatGPT or your notes is tidied for reading aloud: the **, headings and bullets go), or Start from a template (Hook → story → call to action, 3 quick tips, Before and after, Announcement). Davnai writes it: say what the video is about, choose the length and tone, then Write 3 versions (in your Brand Kit voice; 1 AI writing) and Use this one. Under the script you see about how long it takes to read and where that length fits; Shorten for me, More casual and Another version each use 1 AI writing. Put directions for yourself in [square brackets]: they show on the teleprompter but aren't counted as words to read. Saved scripts lists your scripts (also the ones Claude or ChatGPT sent you); Use picks one, the bin deletes it.

Recording without the teleprompter

Switch off Use the teleprompter in 1. Your script (or Teleprompter next to the camera) to record without a script. You can switch it back on at any time before a take.

Scripts from Claude, ChatGPT or Davnai Agent

With Davnai connected to Claude or ChatGPT (see Connected apps), ask for example "write me a 30-second script for tomorrow's video and send it to my Davnai teleprompter": it's waiting in Saved scripts, with a link that opens it ready to record. In Davnai Agent, ask for a script; the card shows it with Save to teleprompter and then Record it. Scripts written by Claude or ChatGPT don't use your AI writing; scripts Davnai writes do.

Setting up the camera and microphone

Set up the camera, then Allow camera and microphone: nothing leaves your device until you send a take. If you pressed Don't allow, allow the camera and microphone for Davnai in your browser's site settings (the icon left of the address) and press Try again. Davnai checks Light (too dark, backlit: face the window or lamp) and Sound (with a level bar: quiet, too loud, or good, and Using: the microphone it hears; if your device has muted that microphone, it says so), and warns when your battery is low. Choose the Shape (Vertical 9:16, Landscape 16:9, Square 1:1), switch between front and back camera, and pick a Microphone. The grid helps framing; on vertical videos the box at the bottom shows where captions go, so keep your face above it.

Beside the camera is one panel: Start recording at the top, then four tabs. Setup has the Light and Sound checks, Shape, Microphone and Your screen (screen sharing). Background has the backgrounds and, with My room, the Camera scene. Teleprompter has the script's speed and size. Takes has your takes; it opens by itself when you stop a take, and 3 · Review takes at the top opens it too.

In the Background tab, when it's set to My room, you can also choose a Camera scene: Natural, Warm studio, Soft ivory or Cinema. Natural keeps the full camera picture. The other choices add a polished coloured frame around the camera picture, and that frame is included in the saved take. You can see the result in the camera preview before recording. The scene is remembered on this browser.

Choosing a background behind you

In Recording Studio → Set up the camera, the Background tab lets you look like you're in a studio, wherever you are. No green screen is needed: Davnai finds you in the camera picture and places you in front of the background, on your own device (the camera picture never leaves it).

  • My room: your real room, as the camera sees it.
  • Blur my room: your room, softly blurred behind you.
  • Brand colour: a plain background in your Brand Kit's first colour.
  • Studio sets: ready-made sets in Studios, Creator, Business, Simple and Motion. Tap one to use it.
  • Upload my own: a PNG, JPEG or WebP picture of up to 15 MB. It stays on this device; a new one replaces it.
  • Make one for me: describe a place (for example "a bright podcast studio with plants") and press Make it. Davnai makes an empty set with AI. It uses 1 AI image from your plan, shows under Made for me, and is also in Image Studio. If your plan doesn't include AI images or you have none left this month, Davnai tells you.

Two switches fine-tune it: Soft focus behind me blurs the set a little, like a real camera, and Match my lighting adds a touch of the set's light to you. The camera preview shows exactly what the take records, and your choice is remembered on this browser.

For the cleanest edges: light on your face, a plain wall behind you, and not too much quick movement. The first moment shows "Getting your background ready…". If a background can't start on your device, Davnai says so and records your normal camera instead; try Chrome, Edge or Safari.

Sharing your screen while you record

To teach something and then show it in the same take, open the Setup tab and press Share my screen, then choose a whole screen, one window or a browser tab in your browser's window. Sharing one window keeps messages and other tabs private. Switch on Include my computer's sound first to record a video or app sound you're demonstrating (browsers share sound from tabs, and whole screens on Windows).

Under the picture, choose Screen + me (your screen with you in a round bubble), Just me or Just the screen. You can switch at any time, even while recording: it all stays one take, with your microphone throughout. Choose Where your bubble sits (Top left, Top right, Bottom left, Bottom right) and its size (Small, Medium, Large). Your background shows in Screen + me and Just me. Recordings with your screen are wide (16:9). The teleprompter keeps scrolling and never shows in the video. Change what I share picks something else; Stop sharing goes back to the camera.

Screen sharing works on a computer in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and on newer iPhones. On other phones, Davnai explains how to record with the phone's own screen recorder, with the steps for an iPhone (Control Centre, press and hold Screen Recording, Microphone on) or an Android phone (Quick Settings, Screen record, sound from the microphone); phone browsers don't let websites share the screen, so this is the way on a phone. Layouts in the editor then puts your camera take in a corner circle over it; then Add my screen recording puts the clip next to your camera takes so you can send it or join it with them. On a computer, Add a recording from this device in the Takes tab does the same with any video.

The teleprompter while recording

The script scrolls at the top of the picture, close to the lens, so your eyes stay on the viewer. It starts moving when you press Start recording (after the countdown). Speed sets the pace in words a minute (100 to start with, a calm pace; your own choice is remembered); Text size makes it bigger; Script area sets how much of the picture the script uses: Full screen (the start, so you see more lines and have time to read), Half or Near the lens (your eyes stay closest to the camera); Follow my voice moves the script as you speak (Chrome, Edge and Safari; it uses the browser's speech recognition, so Google or Apple may process the sound; your video stays with you); Mirror flips it for a glass teleprompter; Back to the start of the script goes to the top. With Follow my voice on, the script only moves when Davnai hears you, so if it doesn't move, check the Sound check first.

Recording takes

Press the round red button on the camera (or Start recording): a 3-second countdown, then it records. Pause and Resume, then Stop ends the take. The timer shows how much of the script is left. If a call comes in or you switch apps, the take pauses by itself and is kept. Long takes can make phones hot: shorter takes, joined later, are easier to redo. Record another take adds more.

Sending your takes and making the video

In the Takes tab, tick the takes to keep (watch them with ▶, move one earlier with ↑, delete with the bin); Davnai shows which platforms the length fits. With one take: Make it post-ready sends it to the AI Director with what you asked (trim pauses and fluffed lines, captions, the shape, one Short) and your script, so captions are more accurate and fluffed lines easier to spot; Just save it to my Library only saves it. With several takes: Join … takes into one video (with captions if you like; uses export minutes, like Join) or Save them separately. Recordings go into a project called Recordings.

Takes are kept on your device until they're sent

Each take is saved on your device second by second while you record, so a dropped signal, a closed tab or a phone call doesn't lose it. If you leave before sending, Record shows "takes on this device that haven't been sent" next time. Once Davnai has a take, the copy on your device is removed. In a private window takes may only last for that visit.

Recording problems

"This browser can't use the camera": open Davnai in Chrome, Safari or Edge, or upload a video instead. "The camera is busy in another app": close video calls and try again. No sound: check the microphone isn't muted and choose it under Microphone. "Recording with the teleprompter isn't in your plan": see Plans, or upload a video you recorded elsewhere. "Making videos is paused" or "Uploads are paused": the Davnai team paused it for a short while; your takes stay on your device, so send them a little later.
