Video minutes and export minutes

What are video minutes?

The Video minutes number on Home shows how much video you uploaded this month against your plan, for example 26 / 30 with "4 min left this month". Each plan includes a number of video minutes per month (see the Pricing page).

When does my month reset?

Your month runs from the day you joined, not from the 1st: if you joined on the 14th, every month runs from the 14th to the 13th, and everything resets on the 14th. If you joined on the 29th, 30th or 31st, short months reset on their last day. Settings → Usage and storage and Home show your next reset date.

The rules

  1. A recording counts once, for its full length, in the month of its upload date, as soon as the upload finishes (the length is checked right after and corrected if needed). A failed or cancelled upload doesn't count.
  2. Suggest edits again and Find more Shorts are AI re-runs: they never count toward minutes. Each plan includes a number of AI re-runs per month, shared by all your recordings. When they're used up, the buttons say so until the month resets.
  3. Nothing else ever counts toward video minutes again: viewing, reviewing, saving versions, approving, making the video, making Shorts, splitting into parts, trims, joins, resizes, quick tools, preview copies and re-transcribing in another language. (Making videos uses export minutes instead: see below.)
  4. The month total is rounded up to whole minutes.
  5. Using an edited video in other tools (⋯ → Edit more, or adding it to a Join) never counts video minutes: it isn't new footage. What you make from it counts export minutes as usual.

Before you upload, Davnai checks the recording fits in the minutes you have left this month.

Examples

  • Upload a 3.5-minute recording → 4 min (3.5 rounded up), whatever you do with it next.
  • Then trim it three times, resize it for TikTok and make the approved video twice → still 4 min.
  • Then choose Suggest edits again with the Aggressive style → still 4 min (it uses one of your monthly AI re-runs instead).
  • Two months later you make another edit of the same recording → 0 min that month (it counted when uploaded).
  • Upload a new 2-minute clip and join it with that recording → 2 min (the new upload).

What are export minutes?

Making a video takes real computer time, so each finished video counts its own length toward your export minutes, every time you make one, including new versions of a recording you already processed.

What counts (the length of the finished video):

  • the finished video from Finish my video (and making it again with different settings);
  • Shorts and Split into parts (each Short or part counts its own length);
  • Trim, Join, Resize, quick tools (cut out, rotate, speed, compress, captions, look, music, stabilise…);
  • B-roll, logo & intro (including the intro and outro you add).

What doesn't count: audio-only files (Get the audio), thumbnails, preview copies, AI Director previews (See my preview), transcripts, AI suggestions, Image Studio, and anything that fails or that you stop with Cancel.

Plans include about 3 times their video minutes as export minutes (Free 90, Starter 900, Pro 2,700 at launch; the Pricing page always shows the current numbers). That's enough to make several versions of everything you upload.

Examples

  • Upload a 10-minute recording and make the AI edit, which comes out at 7 minutes → 10 video minutes, 7 export minutes.
  • Make 3 Shorts of 45 seconds each from it → +3 export minutes (2 min 15 s, rounded up in the month total).
  • Resize the 7-minute edit for TikTok and add B-roll → +7 and +7 export minutes.
  • Make the 7-minute edit in 4K → +7 export minutes (4K counts the same as any other quality).
  • Delete one of those videos → the minutes stay used (the work was done).

What happens when I run out of export minutes?

Before a video starts, Davnai checks it fits. If it doesn't, you'll see how long the video would be and how many export minutes you have left, for example: "This video is about 12 minutes long, and you have 9 export minutes left of 90 this month on the Free plan. Try a shorter video." Shorter videos (a trim, a Short) may still fit. Everything already made stays available. Minutes reset every month on the day you joined, and moving to a bigger plan raises the limit straight away.

A video that's waiting or being made holds its expected length until it finishes (so starting several at once can't go over). If it fails or you cancel it, those minutes are released.

Where do I see what I've used?

Settings → Usage and storage shows your plan and, for this month: video minutes, export minutes, AI re-runs, AI images (Image Studio), and today's Davnai Agent requests, each as "used of limit" with a bar, plus the date everything resets (every month on the day you joined, UTC). Home's Video minutes card links there.

What happens when I run out?

Davnai tells you in the window you're using, before you press anything, with a way forward.

  • Export minutes: when you open Make your video (the editor, Finish my video), it shows what this video uses of what's left, for example "Uses about 11 of your 64 export minutes left".
    • If every shape you ticked doesn't fit, it says so and offers Make 1 video instead when one does, or Upgrade. Make waits until it fits.
    • With none left, it says when they come back, with Upgrade to make it now or Remind me on that date (we email you on the day; once). Your edit is always kept.
  • Video minutes: an upload is checked as soon as you choose the file, before anything uploads. A recording that won't fit says how many minutes it needs and how many you have, with Upgrade. Recordings you already processed keep working: trims, resizes, Shorts, parts and new versions never need video minutes (they use export minutes). A recording counts by the length your browser reads when you choose it, then by its real length once Davnai has checked it. If the real length takes you past your video minutes, nothing new can start this month (no new transcripts, suggestions or videos) until more minutes are added or the month resets.
  • Everywhere else (Resize, Make Shorts, Split, the quick tools, Davnai Agent, pictures): the same card shows what ran out, when it comes back and Upgrade, inside that window or chat card.
  • Before you run out: when less than 10% is left, the editor's bar shows "6 export minutes left this month · Upgrade", and Home's This month card gets an Upgrade button.
  • Upgrade opens a short list of the plans with more minutes and their price where you are. After paying, Plan and billing shows Back to your video.
  • AI re-runs: Suggest edits again and Find more Shorts say you've used them this month.
  • Davnai Agent: a fair-use number of requests per day; it frees up over 24 hours. Every request counts, including one that didn't work out, and so do the AI Director's plans and Suggest edits when joining videos.

Everything resets every month on the day you joined. Moving to a bigger plan raises the limits straight away.

Do failed jobs count?

No. Only work that completes counts, for both video minutes and export minutes. Cancelled jobs don't count either.

Does deleting a recording give minutes back?

No. Minutes record work that was done; deleting the file later doesn't undo it.
