The quick window
Every Video Studio tool that changes one video opens in the same quick window: Add captions, Look & sound, Trim, Cut out sections, Change speed, Rotate or flip, B-roll, logo & call to action, Add music, Make file smaller, Resize for platforms, Join with other videos and Save audio (MP3). Your video is on the left, changing as you choose (captions over it, the look on it, turned and flipped, at the new speed, music playing under it, your logo and call to action where they'll sit, every new shape side by side); a few choices on the right; at the bottom what you'll get (a new copy, how long it takes, your original stays as it is) and one button. Before and After under the video compare it with and without the change (captions, look, speed, music, B-roll). Open in the editor is at the top for anyone who wants more, and takes your choices with you: the parts you trim or cut out, the speed, the captions, look, music, shapes and B-roll are already on the editor's timeline (a turn or flip is made in the quick window). On a phone the window fills the screen: the video on top, the choices under it, one wide button at the bottom.
Full screen while you edit
Split into parts and Make Shorts open full screen: a slim bar with Close on the left, the tool's name and the video's name, and the main button (Trim, Resize, Make 3 Shorts…) on the right. On a phone the bar shows × and the name, and the main button stays at the bottom. Close takes you back to the page you were on.
Trim
Keep one section of a recording. Drag the two handles on the strip under the video (or type when it Starts and Ends, or Set to current); Keep shows the length and a click on the video plays just that part. Exact cut (on by default) cuts on the exact frame. Turning it off is faster but the clip may start a moment early. Keep the sound is on by default. Captions, logo and text (optional) opens the captions (when the recording has a transcript) and the logo and text section.
Join
Put videos together in the order you choose. Open it from Video Studio → Join videos, Join with another or Join them after an upload, a project's Recordings (tick clips → Join) or Change the videos or their order on a joined video. It opens in the quick window:
- Your videos, in order: drag them, or use the arrows to move one earlier or later, and × to take one out. They play one after another on the left as you choose (tap a coloured part of the strip under the player to jump to that video). Add videos adds from This project or All my videos (with a search box). Up to 20.
- Davnai tidies: Trim the quiet start and end of each video (cuts the silence before the first word and after the last, shown on the editor's timeline so you can drag it back), Even out the sound between them, Even out the light and colour between them (each video's brightness and colour brought towards the others; also in the editor under the clean-up choices), and A short fade between videos (a quick dip through black where one video meets the next; also in the editor under Look).
- Open in the editor → opens the video editor with all of them on the timeline, because joining usually means also adding an intro, outro, pictures, text, captions and music. Mistakes and pauses, the opening, shapes and quality are all there too. Nothing is made until you press Make in the editor; the joined video then plays straight away while the full-quality file is saved (usually a minute or two). That page has Keep editing, which reopens the same timeline exactly as you left it. See the video editor article.
Videos with the same format and no changes are glued without being rebuilt (no quality loss, a few seconds). Captions use each video's transcript; an edited video gets its words from the videos it was made from.
Editing an edited video further
⋯ on any edited video → Edit more: All video tools, Resize for platforms, Add captions, B-roll, logo & call to action or Join with other videos. The first time, Davnai makes the edited video into a recording in the same project ("made from an edited video"), so every tool works on it, including Shorts, parts and AI edits. This never uses video minutes; what you make from it uses export minutes as usual.
Resize for platforms
Make a copy in another shape: 9:16 (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook Reels & Stories), 16:9 (YouTube, Facebook video), 1:1 (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) or 4:5 (Instagram & Facebook feed). Choose how the picture fits the new shape (Follow the speaker, Fill, Blurred background or Solid background). The new shape shows big on the left; with Fill, drag the picture to choose the part to keep and zoom with the slider. Captions, music, logo and look (optional) opens the extras.
Several platforms at once: tick every shape you need (for example 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for TikTok and Reels and 1:1 for Instagram) and press Make 3 sizes. One copy is made for each shape, all at the same time on separate workers, with the same captions, look, music and logo. Every shape you ticked shows small under the preview; tap one to see it big. If you don't choose a framing, each shape gets the one that suits it best.
Captions when trimming or resizing
Trim (under Captions, logo and text), Resize and Join have a Captions section (off by default) when the recording has a transcript. A trim with captions is always an exact cut. See captions-and-auto-zoom.
Looks and polish
Improve look & sound (Video Studio tile Look & sound, or ⋯ menu) and the Look & polish section in Resize. See looks-and-polish.
Quick tools
In the toolbar under More tools, or in a recording's ⋯ menu:
- Cut out sections: drag across each part you don't want on the strip under the video, as many as you like (Exact, with handles lets you set one to the tenth of a second, then Cut), or From the words: tap sentences to cut them. Tap a part's chip to hear it, or its x to keep it. Cut parts are hatched on the strip, and the video skips them as it plays so you hear how it flows. Up to 20 parts.
- Add captions: the captions show over the playing video, word by word in the style you pick.
- Look & sound: the look shows on the playing video; switch Before and After to compare.
- Add music: pick a track and press play: it plays under your video at the loudness you set.
- B-roll, logo & call to action: its own quick window again. Pictures and clips, logo, intro and outro, call to action and text; the logo and call to action show on the video. Open in the editor places things on a timeline.
- Rotate or flip: Right 90°, Left 90°, Upside down, Mirror or Upside-down flip; the video turns as you choose, with Before and After pictures. A quarter turn changes the shape (wide becomes upright).
- Change speed: 0.5× to 2×; the video plays at that speed as you choose, with the new length; voices keep their natural pitch.
- Save audio (MP3): the sound as an MP3 file (good for podcasts), with its length and about how big it is.
- Make file smaller: Same look (up to 1080p) or Smallest (up to 720p, for WhatsApp or email), with the size now and about how big it will be.
How long will it take? (progress)
Whenever you start making something (Trim, Resize, Join, a quick tool, Split, Shorts or Make my video), Davnai takes you to Library → Edited, where its progress bar shows until it's ready. Each tool shows an estimated time before you start. While it runs, the Edited tab and the Library show the stage (Starting → Preparing files → Processing → Saving), a progress bar, time elapsed and time left. After a quiet period the first job can spend up to a minute on "Starting the editor". You get a message when the video is ready. When a video takes more than 10 minutes and you've left Davnai, you also get an email (not when you're still watching it in Davnai), with Post it (or Schedule all for several videos) and a link to watch it first. Finished videos on the Edited tab have Post under each card; Shorts or parts made together get Schedule all.
Cancel under the progress bar stops a video that's waiting or being made (tap Stop to confirm). Nothing is saved and nothing counts toward your minutes; you can start it again any time.
What size are the videos? (Quality)
Choose Quality when you make a video:
- 1080p (Full HD), the default: what TikTok, Reels, Shorts, YouTube and LinkedIn show to most people.
- 720p (smaller file): quicker to upload and share.
- 4K (original quality): only when your recording itself is 4K and your plan includes 4K exports (Starter and Pro at launch; otherwise it shows a lock with a link to the plans). Offered in Finish my video, Join (when one of the clips is 4K), Trim, Resize and the quick tools. A 4K video takes about 4 times longer to make and the file is bigger. It counts the same export minutes as any other video (its length).
- 1080p (sharper text and graphics): for recordings smaller than 1080p (720p, 480p), on Starter and Pro (locked with a link to the plans otherwise). Your picture stays as recorded (it is enlarged, so no new detail appears), but captions, text on the video, your logo, the follow button and the intro and ending are drawn at 1080p and come out crisper, and YouTube compresses 1080p uploads more gently. It takes a little longer to make: the button then reads 1080p · Takes longer and the time estimate goes up. It's never chosen for you.
Quality is the small 1080p ▾ button next to the main button on every screen that makes a video: Finish my video (also at the top of Make it), Join, Trim, Cut out, Rotate, Speed, Captions, Look, Music, B-roll, Resize, Split into parts and Make Shorts. Save audio and Make file smaller have their own size choices instead.
Davnai never makes a video bigger than your recording unless you choose 1080p (sharper text and graphics): a 720p recording is made at Original (720p) by default. Recordings shot in 4K or 1440p are made at 1080p unless you choose 4K. Shorts and parts are made at up to 1080p (the apps show them at that size). Trim keeps its quick copy when nothing needs to get smaller. Your original upload always keeps its full size.
An edit failed
Failed edits show the reason with Try again and Dismiss. Try again once. If it fails again with the same reason, contact support with the recording name.
Do edits count toward my video minutes?
Only the first time a recording is processed in any way. Trims, joins, resizes, quick tools and making videos from an approved edit never count again. See video-minutes.
