Split into parts

Help centreVideo editing

What does it do?

It cuts a long recording into several videos, Part 1, Part 2 and so on, in one go. Each part is its own video under Edited. Your original stays unchanged. It never counts toward your video minutes.

Where is it?

A recording's ⋯ → Split into parts, or Video Studio → Split into parts with the recording chosen. It opens full screen with the video at the top and a bar under it showing where each part starts and ends. Close goes back.

How do I choose where it splits?

  • Number of parts: for example 3 parts of about the same length.
  • Length of each part: up to 30 seconds, 1 minute, 90 seconds, 3 minutes or 10 minutes each.

Davnai always splits in the pause after a sentence, never in the middle of a word. The list shows every part with its first words, times and length. Use the ‹ › arrows on a part to end it one sentence earlier or later. Parts must be at least 3 seconds; you can make up to 20.

  • At times I choose: play the video and press Split here where each part should end (exact to the moment). Each split point shows as a chip (tap it to jump there, × to remove it). This works with or without spoken words; a recording without a transcript opens here, and its captions are off (they need the words).

Every part has ▶ to play it in the player above.

Options

  • Shape: Keep original (the default), Vertical 9:16, Landscape 16:9, Square 1:1 or Portrait 4:5, with the same framing choices as Resize (Follow the speaker, Fill with zoom and position, Blurred or Solid background). Tap a shape to choose it (it replaces Keep original); tap more shapes to get every part in each of them (you're asked to confirm before more than one shape is made), all made at the same time (for example 4 parts in 9:16 and 16:9 make 8 videos, named with their shape).
  • Show “Part 1”, “Part 2”… at the start of each part (on by default): a small label at the top for the first 3 seconds. Files are named "Your video – Part 1" and so on.
  • Captions (on by default): the words on the video, with a style and position. See captions-and-auto-zoom.
  • Remove pauses and mistakes: uses the recording's AI edit (last saved version), if it has one.
  • Auto-zoom after cuts (off by default; needs Remove pauses and mistakes).
  • Look & polish (closed by default). See looks-and-polish.
  • Enhance picture (off unless chosen; for dark footage), Enhance sound and Quality (1080p or 720p, the button next to the main button).

How fast is it?

Every part is made on its own worker at the same time (4 at a time by default), so a 25-minute recording split into 4 parts takes a few minutes, about as long as one part. Each shape is one video job (one line under Edited and in the Processing log) that makes all its parts.
